We are a community group (part of a UK network) of volunteer bakers who provide home baked birthday cakes for children who may otherwise not get one due to family circumstances. We get referrals from social services, health practice centres, children's centres, church groups and other local and national organisations.
Most of us are keen amateurs who have a passion for baking and many of us have baked birthday cakes (and still do) for children and grandchildren. We all get a real sense of satisfaction and joy from enabling other children to experience the happiness of receiving a special cake on their own very special day.
We have a closed Facebook group where referrals are posted for bakers to view and them comment if there is a cake they would be able to bake. Ingredients, boards and boxes are always available for bakers to use for their cakes.
Skills
Baking skills at a basic level will be necessary.
