Chairperson for the Board of Trustees

Naval Under Fives is a voluntary managed charitable organisation, providing childcare and education. We have 7 settings in total. Four in Gosport, 2 in Portsmouth and 1 in Fareham. We take children from across all communities including armed forces and civilian.

We believe in providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment that builds on each individual child’s needs and interests, in which they can grow and learn through play.

We are committed to providing the best possible start for all children in our care, teaching them skills and providing experiences to ensure their well-being and future success.

We provide nurturing home from home learning environments, fostering creativity and development.

All our families, Armed Forces and Civilian, are unique. We provide care and support and have a true understanding of the forced separation many Forces families face. We show our families compassion and support during these times.

We generally hold one meeting each term, so 3 a year in addition to the AGM. These are held in the evening. If there is a particular issue or project that needs Trustee support, there may be additional meetings but you are not expected to attend all these meetings. The Trustees discuss fundraising activities, social events, fees, admissions, financial and business matters, new policies etc.

As the chairperson you are the public face of the elected trustees and the organisation. The chair works in partnership with the Board of Trustees, the Operations Manager, staff and parents.

You are responsible for:

Taking charge of the meetings

Making sure all business is dealt with efficiently

Making sure all board members have a say in the discussions and viewpoints heard

Fair delegation of the work to the board members

Skills

You are not required to have any specialised skills, but you need to be objective, flexible and organisational skills will be important.
