Why volunteer with Brendoncare?

Brendoncare offer a range of services from community support and clubs, through to extra care housing and residential care, helping thousands of people across the south of the UK. These services are designed to empower people to live their whole life well, and it is largely down to the kindness, bravery and positivity of our volunteers that we are able to do so.

We have a range of volunteer roles to suit people, regardless of age, background, or whether you can get out and about or want to stay at home; we’d like to hear from you.

Who are you?

We are looking for well organised individuals with a passion for supporting older people, who enjoy communicating with others. You will need a device (e.g. laptop, tablet) and be familiar with using Zoom and email in order to access club sessions and training. It does not matter where you live geographically as the role is fully remote! An email address and Zoom account for use whilst volunteering will be provided.

What is required?

This role will play an important part in running an online club. As an Online Club Host Volunteer you will be an enthusiastic and friendly presence at club sessions, welcoming members and making sure that everyone is included in conversations and activities. You will engage with members and volunteers to develop an exciting programme of enjoyable, interactive activities. These activities will vary from club to club, but might include quizzes, games, speakers, seated exercise sessions, entertainers, reminiscence, discussions, jokes etc. We really want our volunteers to identify interests and skills from the membership and encourage them to contribute to their clubs.

We will take up references and complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Training is important to make sure we keep you and everyone we work with safe. All training is conducted online using Zoom. Ongoing support from the Brendoncare staff team is also available.

When can I volunteer?

We have a number of online clubs.

We are specifically looking for volunteers to support with hosting the following clubs: Monday morning friendship (Mondays, 10-11, weekly), Virtual Voices (Wednesdays, 6-7, weekly), Music for All (day/time TBC), Friday Fit & Wellbeing (Fridays, 10:30-11:30, weekly).

This role allows you to develop at your own pace gaining experience, skills, confidence and friendships. We provide you with an induction, ongoing training and support, and reimbursement of out of pocket/travel expenses. Your DBS check will be provided at no financial cost to you.
