Our mission is to enable Older People to live later life well.
Our aim is to eliminate isolation and loneliness among older people by connecting them in communities that care
MHA, (Methodist Homes), is an award-winning charity providing care, accommodation and support services for over 18,000 older people throughout the UK. We are one of the most well-respected care providers in the sector and amongst the largest charities in Britain, providing services to older people for 75 years. MHA was founded in 1943 by a group of Methodists who wanted to improve the quality of life of older people in the time before the creation of the Welfare State. MHA has Care Homes, Retirement Living and Live at Home Schemes.
We currently have over 64 community based Live at Home Schemes with over 10,000 members. At Live at Home, we want to enable older people to stay living independently in their own homes for as long as possible, with the best possible quality of life. In Hampshire, we have 12 Live at Home Schemes covering all of Hampshire. We have over 2,600 volunteers helping us provide services to older people, promoting independence and offering different social opportunities such as lunch clubs, befriending, exercise groups and coffee mornings.
Doing something active, does you good. Evidence shows that helping others is actually beneficial for our own mental health and well-being. It can help reduce stress, improve our emotional well-being and even benefit our physical health. (Mental Health Foundation, 2018)
Volunteers can get involved and have fun with members enjoying experiences together and, in turn, have an impact on the quality of life of older people, helping MHA to tackle loneliness.
