Volunteering Opportunities in Archaeology

Practical archaeological survey and practical tasks.

Do you enjoy being out and about in the New Forest? Why not join our archaeology team. As part of this team you will be identifying archaeological sites and features across the New Forest, recording and assessing them. We are currently carrying out practical tasks to restore scheduled ancient monument across the New Forest National Park.

Role Description:

  • Help conserve some of the features through vegetation clearance (gorse and bracken from scheduled ancient monuments)
  • Working across a variety of New Forest environments from heath and woodland to churchyards, villages and forgotten industrial sites
  • Working as part of a team you will visit, identify and assess archaeological sites across the New Forest
  • Assess (in the field) features for inclusion into the NFNPA and local archaeological databases
  • Use digital recording equipment to identify, survey and record agreed features for inclusion into the NFNPA and local archaeological databases and photograph recorded features
