Help Support Local People in East Hampshire

Volunteer for Citizens Advice East Hampshire.

Citizens Advice East Hampshire is calling for volunteers of all backgrounds to deliver essential services and support local people. Last year the charity supported around 6000 people in East Hampshire. It can only do this work thanks to its team of volunteers.

The charity is launching an appeal for new Assessors who can give their time to help answer enquiries from people struggling with  a range of issues including housing, benefits, debt and employment. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided.

As well as volunteers to offer advice to people in person, online or over the phone we are also seeking volunteers to undertake the following roles:

  • Trustee (with HR/Legal experience)

  • Administration 

  • Fundraising

Citizens Advice East Hampshire volunteers come from all walks of life and choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. They include students; people getting back into work after career breaks; people with part-time jobs; carers; and people who have retired. 

Volunteers are often looking for new ways to gain valuable experience and enhance their skills, or to enjoy the opportunity to work with and meet different people.

Melinda Cooper, Reception and Administration Volunteer at Petersfield said:

"The receptionist role is interesting and can be challenging and keeps you busy.  You get the opportunity to speak to the clients, manage the emails and try to keep the system running as smoothly as possible. Volunteering with CA has given me confidence and helped me learn new skills, I feel supported and a valued member of the team."

Skills

You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you’ll need to:

  • be friendly and approachable.

  • be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.

  • have good listening skills.

  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • have good maths and IT skills.

  • be able to understand information and explain it to others.

  • be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.

  • be willing to undertake training in your role.
