After having completed an exciting National Lottery Funded Project to restore Staunton’s Regency landscape, enhance community facilities for visitors and increase our volunteer offer, our volunteers have been instrumental in helping us to restore and maintain the park, to ensure it is at its best.
If you enjoy spending time outdoors and carrying out basic tasks, we have a group of friendly gardening volunteers who meet weekly to support us in taking care of the park.
We have an orchard in Storey Gardens and several beds in the garden and all around the park, following the National Lottery Funded Project. In our gardening groups, volunteers work alongside Ranger staff and other volunteers to keep our beds looking healthy and beautiful.
Typical tasks and
duties:
- Weeding and mulching
- Watering
- Preparing beds for planting
- Planting blubs and young shrubs/plants/flowers and occasionally trees
- Generally looking after our beds, orchard, and community planting spaces in the park
Skills
Some basic gardening skills and knowledge would be useful, but are not essential, as direction can be given by staff and other volunteers in the group. However, volunteers do need to be able to work independently, after guidance is given, therefore a certain level of initiative and independence skills will be required.
We have one group that takes place on a Wednesday morning and a Saturday session twice a month during the summer/autumn. We also have another group on a Tuesday evening, however, this will only run as long as the light holds out in the autumn and then will finish for the season, starting again in 2024.
