We are looking for volunteers in the Basingstoke, Winchester, Andover, Alton areas to give up
some of their time to support our clients after they have been discharged from hospital. Returning home from hospital can be a little daunting and
having someone to lend a hand can help them regain their confidence and
re-establish their routines.
Supported by the Hospital Trust and funded by Royal Voluntary Service the Home from Hospital is a free service available to patients which offers support with helping to readjust at home.
As a volunteer, normally you will visit at home and assist with such things as:
- Helping with shopping
- Picking up prescriptions
- Accompanying to social activities
- Providing Information about other services and signposting on
- Or even just having a cup of tea and a chat if that is what they would like
The support normally lasts for 6-8 weeks if it is Home from Hospital and the emphasis is on regaining independence at home and in the community. We can also offer longer-term befriending for isolated individuals in the community.
However, since March 2020, we have had to minimize direct face to face contact so on-going phone support has been put in place plus shop and drops, prescription collection if the volunteer is not self-isolating, garden visits and assisted walks. We have also extended the length of time we support clients until such time as we can go back to business as usual.
If you feel you can or would like to help, please register your interest today.
Volunteers will need to be mobile to visit clients in their homes or walk around wards.
