The Waterside Scrapstore is a treasure trove of low cost arts and crafts resources where a full carrier bag of pick and mix materials costs as little as £2.00. It is run by volunteers who collect clean recyclable materials from local businesses and individuals; diverting waste from landfill at the same time as enhancing play and learning activities. Customers range from parents and great grandparents, to pre-schools and care homes.
Everyone is a volunteer. Yes, everyone from our Management Committee through to the people who man the shop, we’re all volunteers. We’re always looking for more people who can help us, even if it’s just spreading the word or making some examples.
Once trained, you will open the shop, help customers, respond to messages, make and record cash and credit sales, put away donations, tidy up, complete membership applications for new joiners and lock up on exit.
N.B. Once volunteers are up and running they have to be capable of lone working in a very busy retail environment.
