Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) are a uniformed youth organisation, supported by Hampshire Constabulary, which has been designed as a youth engagement and diversionary programme. The scheme aims to promote a practical understanding of policing among all young people and encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship through volunteering amongst the community.
There are 14 units around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight based at: Applemore, Ryde, Andover, Basingstoke, Petersfield, Aldershot, Winchester, Hedge End, Cantell, Redbridge, Portsmouth North, Southsea, Gosport and Havant.
This is a varied volunteer role offering personal development as well as the opportunity to really enhance and change a young person's life for the better; volunteers will be required to assist the Unit Leader in the delivery of the scheme and therefore applicants will need to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and ideally have a 'skill' which will benefit the 'Unit' i.e. coaching, mentoring or training.
Commitment - It is expected that the successful applicant will volunteer 2 hours per week to the role in addition to a minimum of 3 hours monthly for assisting with the community events and policing initiatives. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Unit.
As 'Fairness and Equality' forms a part of Hampshire Constabulary’s Core Values this will therefore form an integral part of the recruiting and selection process. Although Fairness and Equality may not be assessed or questioned as a stand-alone topic, it will be threaded throughout the selection process. It is therefore advisable that you are able to provide positive evidence in this area.
Applicants must enjoy working with young people and we are especially interested in volunteers who have a skill which they can bring to our team. This includes mentoring, sports coaching, drill, teaching, safeguarding.
Applicants are desired to demonstrate leadership skills or a keenness to develop themselves in this area - training will be provided.
Applicants are not required to have policing experience and we would welcome any skills or experience that can benefit our units.
