We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers with an interest in local history and people’s memories of the local area.
Typical tasks and duties:
Researching archives and other materials
Arranging interviews or taking part in public drop-in sessions
Helping with administrative tasks, such as scanning documents and photographs
Writing summaries and transcribing interviews
Recording and editing digital interviews
Assisting in selecting content from recordings for exhibitions and future website
Attending training and occasional Research Team Meetings
Being the volunteer face of Leigh Park Voices project and acting accordingly
Skills
No formal qualifications are required. Just an interest in the subject matter and a willingness to engage with a wide range of people. Some experience of conducting interviews or using sound recording equipment would be useful, however training will be provided, so it is more important to be willing to learn the skills required.
Ideally you will also:
Be patient, friendly and able to communicate well with people of different ages and backgrounds
Be able to encourage and motivate people to share their memories and expand on details, (training given)
Have experience of basic admin and ICT
Have research skills or an interest in learning
The ability to write clearly and concisely

Availability Details
Most research currently takes place from home at times convenient with the volunteer's own timetable. We do have some intial training that volunteers may need to attend and optional two weekly meetings/work space time at Staunton County Park, in which the Research and Oral History Volunteer Team meets to discuss upcoming exhibitions or interviews and to share their experience, if they wish.
