Waste Prevention Community Champions - Food and Composting

Community champions help Hampshire residents waste less and save money by reducing the amount of food they throw away and/or encouraging them to home compost.

Our usual activities involve face to face engagement with the public and these are currently on hold. However our champions are finding ways to engage with people remotely through blogs, local papers and community groups.

The type of activities you might be involved in include:

Give talks to interested groups, such as community groups, students and businesses. Identify and attend suitable local events at which to promote food and garden waste prevention. Carry out activities to show people how they can reduce food waste. Carry out activities to demonstrate how to use a compost bin. Contribute to articles for websites, community newsletters and local press.

However, the role is flexible and full training will be given. This role is important in changing public behaviour around food and garden waste generation and will involve interaction with people from all backgrounds.
