Community Associate

As an organisation we work closely with families in the community, many of whom are refugees that have been placed in housing following incredibly traumatic and stressful circumstances. These individuals can often feel isolated and unfortunately often lack support.

With a growing number of refugees in the community requiring our support, we are looking to recruit volunteers to help us deliver this essential service through our Community Associate programme.

Community Associates are matched with either an individual or a family and will act as a point of contact for them.

We ask that our volunteers are able to commit to one face-to-face visit a month, for around 60-90 minutes and then once weekly contact either by text message or phone, whatever works for the family.

The purpose of the contact is to provide holistic support, help them feel welcomed into the local community, as well as answering any questions they may have about living in the local area. Our volunteers in the past have visited parks, been for walks and enjoyed monthly catch ups over a cup of tea.

This is an opportunity to play an active part in welcoming refugees to the local community and helping them integrate and build their lives.

Community Associates will work closely alongside our Directors who will support you should you have any concerns. This role is flexible and can be carried out during the daytime, evening or weekends, based on a mutual agreement between both parties.

All expenses will be covered and training and introductions will be provided.

Skills

Community Associates must demonstrate excellent listening and communication skills and, whilst no formal experience is required in this area, they must be able to show that they can understand and empathise with the needs of the people they are be working with.

They must be reliable, professional and trustworthy and have a keen desire and enthusiasm for being part of our organisation.
