CMA Connect Fareham helps anyone worried about money or debt to access free, confidential debt advice. Our befrienders are ready to help and support anyone whatever their circumstances, background or faith. After talking with a client to gain all the necessary information, advice will then be obtained from qualified debt advisers working for a well-known national charitable agency called Community Money Advice. This advice will be specific to the client's needs and as much time and support as required will be given, in order to help the client become debt free, whilst working towards financial stability. During the advice process, clients will, if they wish, be taught budgeting and money management skills, to ensure they have control over their finances, enabling them to remain debt free in the future.
We need to build up our number of befrienders in the expectation of a large increase in those needing debt advice in the early months of 2021.
*We use Zoom for meetings whenever necessary, so if people feel more comfortable volunteering from home we would be happy to accommodate*
Skills
Befrienders do not need any formal qualifications but certainly need to be able to be able to put clients at ease and to listen carefully to all their problems. An informal chat/interview will be given to enable both the volunteer and CMA Connect Fareham to establish that we are suitable to work together. A reference along with a DBS check is required. All the necessary training and support will be given before a volunteer is expected to work with clients. Confidence with using a computer is desirable. The amount of time and the hours a volunteer gives are flexible.
