The Emsworth Show Summer Exhibition is a community event which is open to all the family with craft, gardening & food stalls. The Emsworth Horticultural Society showcases a wonderful display of locally grown produce, arts & crafts every year at the show. Every year, they seek volunteers for various different roles to support the smooth running of this busy and popular annual event.
As somebody passionate about volunteering, William was eager to find out more about the role and how he could help. He registered his interest in the Ground Team Assistant role via our Volunteer First Website, which he found to be very user-friendly. William was delighted to have taken up the role and said the following when asked:
Why did you decide you wanted to volunteer?
“I have always enjoyed volunteering, and so when I found the Volunteer First website it was a treasure trove of new opportunities.”
Were there any difficulties or barriers to finding a volunteer role?
“There were no difficulties or barriers to finding a volunteer role at all, there is a great selection.”
Was it easy to apply, what did you have to do?
“It was very easy and straightforward to apply for the role, I simply registered my interest in it on their page, and then they got back to me a little later via email to arrange an informal phone call to discuss it.”
What have been the best bits about volunteering so far?
“The bests bits about volunteering so far, have to be getting to meet new people and seeing behind the scenes at the places I volunteer at.”
What advice would you give other people who think they may want to volunteer?
“My advice to other people who think they may want to volunteer, is just to go for it and take advantage of every opportunity you find, as helping out can be so fun and rewarding.”
Was it helpful to you using the Volunteer Service/the Volunteer First website and would you recommend them to others?
“The Volunteer First service is very helpful and makes it easy to find and apply for new volunteering opportunities, I completely recommend it to everyone.”
We celebrate William during Volunteers’ Week 2022 for supporting the operation of local events in his community. We thank him for his commitment and dedication!
