It’s National Volunteers’ Week – could you make a difference?

27 May 2022

1st to 7th June marks National Volunteers’ Week, the annual campaign established in 1984, that recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities everyday. Volunteers’ Week 2022 is also the perfect time to say THANK YOU to the thousands of volunteers across Hampshire who have played a key role in making our communities thrive throughout the pandemic and now.

“It goes without saying that volunteers have played a key role in the pandemic response. During an exceptionally difficult couple of years, people from all walks of life around the UK have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to their communities – just as they do every year. This is a time for us to come together and thank all volunteers for their invaluable contribution.”

“The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering. However, the Coronavirus pandemic has rightly raised the profile of volunteering and more people than ever are aware of the immense contribution being made every single day by Britain’s volunteers. That is why, on this 38th annual #VolunteersWeek and during the #MonthofCommunity, it’s time to say: thank you volunteers!” National Centre for Volunteering Services (NCVO)

Community First’s Volunteer Service helps to promote hundreds of opportunities on behalf of charities and community groups across New Forest, Winchester, Fareham, Havant and East Hampshire. During and beyond the pandemic, we have also helped recruit, mobilise and support thousands of volunteers to carry out much needed services within their communities including: shopping, transport, befriending, testing and donation sorting.

Tim Houghton, Community First CEO says:Volunteers are the lifeblood  of our communities. We’ve seen an amazing response and real desire for local people to help those in need across Hampshire during the last year. Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to celebrate and to say thank you but also to maintain the momentum and make sure volunteering is accessible and open to all. A few minutes a day or a few hours a week can make all the difference to someone and best of all it’s free.

Our Volunteering Service also helps those who are looking to volunteer to find the perfect opportunity in their local area or from home. For more information, why not check out the hundreds of local roles on our website at www.volunteerfirst.org.uk or by emailing volunteer@cfirst.org.uk.
