IBM do their bit to celebrate Volunteers Week!

17 June 2016

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK, taking place from the 1-12 June. Businesses across the country have also made their contribution with IBM volunteering a day of their time to share their skills with the voluntary and community sector.

Seven community groups from across Hampshire were invited to benefit from the workshop ‘Basics of Branding & Marketing’ delivered by IBM’s Marketing Team.  The day’s session took place at IBM Hursley, Winchester with Cheryl Clarke, Marketing Manager commenting “we had a fantastic day offering our knowledge and expertise around simple marketing and branding techniques.  It is so important that any organisation, whether corporate or voluntary, sends out the right message as this can impact on recruiting more staff and volunteers, increasing revenue and raising the profile of the organisation.  IBM is very keen to support the charity sector and really pleased to be able to take part in Volunteers Week”.

The workshop was organised by Community First, a charity that supports voluntary and community groups across Winchester, East Hampshire and Havant Borough.  Janet Duggan, Business & Community Project Lead says “we would like to thank IBM for taking a day out of their busy week to pass on their skills to the voluntary sector.  In times of financial strain for many charities it is essential that the business world look at ways of how they can best support community projects”.

If you have been inspired by Volunteers Week and would like to volunteer go to Community First’s new volunteering website: www.volunteerwessex.org or email: janet.duggan@cfheh.org.uk to find out how businesses can get involved in the Employee Volunteering Scheme.
