Next week, 1st-7th June, marks the annual Volunteers’ Week taking place across the country. We would like to take a moment to thank the record numbers of volunteers – an estimated million new helpers nationwide – supporting their communities in so many ways during the current pandemic.
Whether they are helping local shielded people as a direct response to the crisis, offering a listening ear to people coping with grief or isolation, or assisting organisations with adapting their services for these extraordinary circumstances – the kindness, compassion, commitment, and resilience of volunteers cannot be stated enough.
While Volunteers Week events cannot run as normal, we believe that we owe our thanks to volunteers now more than ever. We invite everyone to open Volunteers Week by taking to the doorstep or sitting at the window, to show our appreciation through applause. Let’s make some noise for the unpaid heroes keeping so many essential services going!
#ClapForVolunteers will take place on Monday 1st June at 8pm. Please tell your neighbours, friends, families, and colleagues – let’s give volunteers the moment of celebration that they deserve.
