Moving on from 2020, (as I’m sure we’d all like to) and looking ahead to what the New Year will bring, why not let us help inspire you to make those changes that you’ve been contemplating throughout the dark winter months. Let us enthuse you to take those first steps, small or large, towards making positive change, towards learning new skills, towards becoming more active and connecting with your community.

Whether you’re looking for a new project, big or small, long term or one off, have a look below at some of the hundreds of roles in your local area that are waiting to inspire you.

Get Active

Friday Football Coach Support youngsters and get active at this drop-in football project

Movement Volunteer  Help deliver the joy of dance by supporting children, young people and the elderly to bring movement and dance to all.
Conservation Work in the great outdoors. Enjoy nature through practical tasks such as woodland management, path work, fencing, heath and downland management, hedge laying and pond restoration.
Healthy Walks Helping others to get active, one step at a time.
Activity Assistants support older people, including those with EMI, physical restrictions and dementia to take part in activities including tai chi, Nordic walking, quizzes, games, talks, arts and crafts, day-trips and social stimulation.

Learn a new skill

Community first responders. Local volunteers, trained and dispatched by the Ambulance Service to attend medical emergency calls
Chef/sous chef Help in a community cafe which uses surplus food rescued from supermarkets, local growers, producers and from the food aid charity FareShare UK to make healthy, delicious, nutritional hot lunches at affordable prices.
Creative Writing Group Volunteer work with young children to promote literacy in an environment that is fun, colourful, slightly bonkers and hands-on.

Inspire others

Scouts Beavers and Cubs. Be involved in preparing young people with skills for life. Encourage children of all ages to do more, learn more and be more.
Volunteer Mentor. Volunteer and be a mentor to help ex-offenders needing encouragement and support and a different perspective.
School Governor. Provide leadership and support to schools, to improve educational standards so that children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential.
Youth Coach. Currently being delivered online, volunteer as a youth coach to help deliver life-changing personal development programmes in schools.

Get to know your community

Community Allotment Volunteer Help build raised planters for our communal allotment and getting them ready to start planting herbs and vegetables.
Police Communi
ty Engagement. Volunteer to take an active role in building positive community relations between the police and the community, promoting community safety and crime reduction initiatives.
Lifeboat Sho

re an
d Boat Crew. All crew are trained in safety at sea, power boat handling, first aid and all activities required to keep a lifeboat operational and lookout manned. Prior knowledge of seamanship is not
essential as excellent training is offered.
Community Radio We
bsite Developer: Help with website development and integrating community radio playout and scheduling software. A short term project with a big impact!
Timebank Members. Volunteer to offer neighbourly support to and/or share skills.
Don’t let 2021 drive you to distraction. Our most requested volunteer role is for drivers, from cars to minibuses here are just a few of the Driving Opportunities near you.
